Changes to UK Border Entry Requirements – IMPORTANT

This impacts many people, both UK nationals and dual nationals. In particular, dual UK/Cypriot nationals need to be aware of this change in the regulations.

This is the Home Office reply regarding the changes to UK border entry requirements after 25th February 2026.

  1. Non-UK passport holders must have an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
  2. UK passport holders must have a valid UK passport and can only travel into the UK using their UK passport.
  3. Dual national UK and another country passport holders MUST travel on their valid UK passport.
  4. Irish nationals travelling on an Irish passport do not need an ETA
  5. Dual national UK and another country passport holders who do not have a valid UK passport can travel on their foreign passport if they have applied for and obtained a “Certificate of Entitlement” before their travel date.
  6. Carriers will not allow individuals to board the plane without the necessary documents.
